Off to Maderia!

We are READY!  Can you tell?  There are 27 of us... “The Americans...plus two Australians and a woman from Mexico.
We are from Kentucky, Florida, North Carolina, Alaska, San Juan Islands, Washington and maybe I missed an east coast state or two?
We have been together for three days now and are enjoying our diversity and our ukuleles...plus food and wine of course.

Every morning we walk to the Conservatory of Music and School of the Arts in downtown Funchal, on the island of Maderia.
This is the week of The Flower Parade and Festival, so flowers are everywhere and in many forms.

For three mornings we have music classes in the historical instruments, how to play them, the music of these grandparents to our
Ukuleles!  We feel like real students!

Our turn....such concentration!  Yikes!

In the afternoon it’s off to explore Funchal...yes, first a food and wine walking tour.  Oh My!
Fabulous local guides!

Madeira wine!

The Chocolate store!!  Yes, tastes of a few....

The cookie store!  More tastes!

Dried cod.  No, no tastes...thank you.  Just passed by the store window and couldn’t resist!

This is more like it...fried potato skins!  Who knew?

On to Poncha tasting...more than once...but this was the best.  Ask Steve to see his poncha stick...

Did I mention the street art, the embroidery, the tiles, the fruit and vegetable market, our hotel roof top bar, concerts and FLOWERS?

Oh Madeira....what a charming place to call home for a week!
