Scotland Begins to Sink into our Bones....

We’re off to let some Scottish history sink into our bones...or feet...as we climb the hill that holds the spot where a candidate for the Scottish throne would go to see if his foot fit the “stone” ....and the title of King would be bestowed.  Or Queen.  Why not Queen?  Although some Queens didn’t have such a good life...so...

Ok, we’re up and atop.  Definitely a fine view of the land of the Scott’s spreads out before us.  Now...to see if we are to be King or Queen.

This is the spot they say....

But wait...we both fit!?

Later they tell us...you don’t take off your shoes!  AND, the real spot to place your foot is actually below this foot form, which protects the actual historic, for real, place where King’s of Scotland were verified.  Gee whiz.

Then it’s off for a wee visit to guide Brian’s house in the Crinan Canal.  Brian wants a picture of 15 people in his living room....here it is!

I think about hauling groceries up these steps.  Very sweet little abode!

This afternoon it’s off on a Wildlife and Whirlpool Cruise with Captain Lindsey.  The weather helps to give us an authentic Scottish experience.

This is Captain Lindsey as he explains the safety features and life jackets.  He says no one ever listens to him, so he won’t go into detail....

As we approach the third largest whirlpool in the world, Captain Lindsey says to “Hold On!”   Here we are following instructions....but...today is a calm day....sooo....

People are quite impressed.  I keep thinking about our currents and, yes, whirlpools, at home.

A three hour tour takes us out and about through the nearby islands, with a look at a few grey seals, a white tailed eagle and some swift moving water.  It is a beautiful place, but again I am reminded that our home waters are incredibly rich in wildlife and hard to match.

Soon we head back to the farmhouse, but before dinner it’s off for a short walk and a mini history tour of the trail that threads through this land.  Liam tells us a tale of long ago.  We trace the trail down to his home, and the ruins of a local church and cemetery.

If stones could talk.....

A fabulous dinner awaits us in the farmhouse dining room....perfect end to an amazing day!
