Off to the Isles of Mull and Iona

This is a long day of travel by van, ferry and foot.  We leave the farmhouse at 09:30 and head to the first ferry of the day.  By the end of the day, there will be four ferry rides, one royal wedding viewed on ferry tv, two islands visited, one abbey toured, a great pub stop (more waiting for ferries) ....and a pub dinner back in Oban.  Here we go!

We have long awaited a visit to the Island of Iona, off the coast of the Island of Mull.  It is a windy day and the ferry threatens to cancel late afternoon runs...so our time is short and we make the most of it.

The Iona Abbey is beautiful, old, full of spirit ....

As is our custom, we light a candle for safety and health for those we hold dear.  This one is for Jessica.

The shore of Iona, looking toward the Abbey way in the distance.  Oh how we wish we had more time.  They say of Iona, if you visit once, you will visit three times.....

Retracing our tracks back to Mull, we find we have two hours before the next ferry....and, what do you know...there’s a PUB...right there by the ferry landing.  We gather outside with our fine beer...and what to our wondering eyes should appear???  But...American tourists wearing fascinator hats and dragging life size cut outs of...yes, the Royal Couple...our good friends, Harry and Meghan.  (Remember...we watched the Royal Wedding on the ferry tv this very morning)

They may have the Royal Couple....but we have....Ukuleles!  And so....

Soon we are ALL singing, “Today I Met the Girl I’m Going to Marry”.....LOUDLY!

It was a Good Day....but wait...not over yet....

It’s on to the Lorne Pub in Oban for dinner....

Ummm, lamb shank for dinner!

Oh, how could you?
