GNUF 2019 Huddersfield, England

We stay in the same hotel we were in last year and walk to the same coffee shop each morning, passing the same rug store we passed last year...yes, with the same cute sheep looking as us as we pass by.  Couldn’t resist.  There are advantages to going to the same festival more than once!

I make good use of my rain gear for the first two days.

The canal boats are still moored right out our hotel window.  The weather finally switched to sunny skies on Sunday.

If it’s raining, nothing like a good “cuppa” tea with your lunch.  Love that it’s served in proper tea cups, like my grandmother’s house!

Peter is a fabulous teacher, but what lessons, all within one hour on Saturday and one hour on Sunday.  His classes lead to performance....um...this time on stage at GNUF!  GULP!

The joke is, our stage time  placement on Sunday put us the act after Jake!  As in...yes, Jake Shimabukuro.  The joke is, “Jake is opening for us!!”  It’s a good joke...ha ha ha...definitely...

Backstage jitters...all 40 of us?  Yes.  Safety in numbers.

This is the only proof I have...The Max Uke Group from GNUF 2019 on stage....after Jake!
Not a good photo, but I can tell what is going on!  You will just have to believe me.

Yes!  Although we missed seeing Jake when he actually came to Friday Harbor last February, we had the awesome experience of enjoying  his performance here at GNUF.  He is a most incredible ukulele player (started at the early age of 4) and an incredible human being as well.  Some things you just know.

Meanwhile, outside and inside the venue, ukulele rules along with song and smiles.

It’s Petey Mack again, leading a jam session.  Heidi and Daniel join in from the steps.

Back in the theater for the Grand Finale Show on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Ward and Heidi Swedberg do their ukulele magic for a great set.

Sarah Maisel

Sarah and Craig Chee do a few songs together and solo.  It’s really fun to enjoy these performances by folks we’ve known for a long time in ukulele world.

Uh oh....it’s gonna be “Goodbye Again” to Heidi....this time from sunny ole England...until we meet again....don’t know where, don’t know when..

And...to Sarah and Craig...but we plan to see them on Oahu in August....so, do know where, do know when...and it will probably be a sunny day!

Safe travels everyone....

Speaking of travels...remember that trendy backpack we left home with?  Yes, we still have it...although, it’s inside Big Blue, and Big Blue has...wait for it....WHEELS!  Be flexible, says Steve.  Not everything goes according to the plan.  For sure not the original plan...but it’s working.

So it’s off on the morning train...from Huddersfield to Manchester Airport to Dublin’s fair city, where the girls are so pretty...the home of Molly Malone!

We LOVE traveling by train.  This one is only one hour and standing room only.  We’re not the only ones headed to the airport.  But, we quickly find another person with a ukulele case and enjoy our conversation all the way to the end of the line.  Then, we head for Ireland and he heads back to Germany.
