Hello Amsterdam! Part II.

Moving around by tram costs only $7.50 per ticket, which is valid for 24 hours.  Even though we get on the wrong tram, go the wrong way, it's no problem.  We just ride it all the way back and start over.

Bicycles are EVERYWHERE!  It's the fastest method of getting from point A to point B, and you can tote your groceries or even your children with you.

We find the "I Amsterdam" sign.

The windmills in Zandam are a day trip into the countryside by train.

We take a tour of the restored windmill that has been used to make linseed oil.  We even climb to the top and take in the view.

We found a few little sidewalk restaurants.....

....how about a bowl of yogurt with fruit toppings?

Or...my all time favorite..little Dutch pancakes called Poffertjes, topped with butter, powdered sugar, strawberries and whip cream!!

Now, add fresh mint hot tea!

Find this place, next time you are in Amsterdam!!  Be sure to arrive hungry!

We have to check out the "alternative coffee shop" and see what they sell besides coffee.  It's very smokey inside, packed with people and we buy....nothing.

The chocolate store, well that's another matter!

Each evening, back on board our floating hotel, the tired travelers pause for a glass of wine up on deck.  In these northern latitudes it's light until after 10 p.m. in late May so no hurry to find dinner.

Before we know it, it's time to move on to our next stop, Denmark.  We are up early, one last breakfast, walk to the Central Station, take the train to the airport and check in for our KLM flight to Copenhagen.

European train travel is easy, comfortable and convenient, and very affordable.

At the Amsterdam airport we find the theme of "bring the outside IN...". Here Steve can charge his cell phone while he peddles the power.

Then he checks out the fake tree with bird songs coming from the branches.  There is even a waterfall and a bench made to look like a log.

Goodbye Amsterdam....tulips....

...goodbye wooden shoes...

..goodbye Delft crockery... and canals with cool boats...

....it's time to go!
