The Umbrellas of Cherbourg...There are Many

Next stop, Cherbourg!

This port is close enough to the town center of Cherbourg that we can walk.  However we leave that for the afternoon and head out to visit the French countryside and more fishing villages.  The history if WWII surrounds us as we constantly notice places where the shore meets the sea and think about the beaches of Normandy.

The tides are huge here.  Boats sit on the harbor bottoms awaiting the return of the sea.  Fishermen still work here, but the tide rules all as far as when!

Small streets and churches and gardens, ports and boats, stories of the fishermen and farmers....lead us back to Cherbourg.

We find the end of Market Day in the square.  First some bread!

Then some cheese!  But, how to choose?

Finally, the cider maker waves us over.  "Come!  Sample my fine cider!"

Of course we do!

Cheers!  To Cherbourg!  To France!  To a return someday....soon!

Just in case you wonder....yes, the famous movie "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" is still remembered.

For me....I remember the cider!
