Barge Day 4: Néronville to Nemours

Here’s our departure spot this morning.  The barge is ready to go...and so are we.  Especially those of us with SPECIAL bikes!
Each day our guide puts up a reminder on the white board about our upcoming adventure.  We add to it with red marker!  Silly us!
But truly, his idea of a km is MUCH shorter than ours....just sayin’....

Captain Kriess starts the engines and away floats The Fleur.

We are off for 30km of riding...and first stop is the town at Chateau-Landon, a walled city dating back to the 13th century.

We lock up our bikes and join our local tour guide for a walking tour of this place of many stories.

All these stairs lead to the land where the poorer people lived.  They were not allowed to stay the night inside the city walls.
Their path every day lead more wealthy people’s places and down to the river, where they could grow
some of their own food.  See those veggie gardens way down below?

Here is a bridge across the little river, called the “Bridge of Shame” as it is a stolen altar from the abbey.

Some locals.....

And some "not" locals....

Every window and door in the french villages seems to be bursting with "story!"  I wish I could hear them!

Here comes Thanya again....answering the challenge to run down and UP the stairs....

Our visit ends in the cathedral...with yet another opportunity to light a candle...of course, I do.

We get to the mooring place a little early...remember, no one holding anyone back at the end of the line!  Ha HA!
So, Weiger stops at a little park by the river and lets the “kids” have a little fun.  The French have exercise toys for adults in parks!
Who knew?

Oh....Home!

The home mark is in sight!

Lovely end to the late afternoon, a sit in the air conditioned salon to write in a journal....

..and maybe take a little nap!?

...but wait...it’s Weiger AGAIN...with tomorrow’s route before us!
