It’s off to Wales on this bright Friday morning, traveling by train. The station is a short 10 minute walk from our hotel. The machine that spits out your pre-purchased tickets works perfectly! It’s breakfast in the station and then, wait for the CROSSCOUNTRY Train from Edinburgh to Cardiff.
Our train trip today is almost 6 hours long, with one quick change at Redding.
About 10 o’clock the snack wagon rolls down the aisle and it’s time for tea and shortbread. Of course it is!
This train is not as comfy .... so it’s a long trip. It puzzles us that although we know we are in “Coach A” we have no idea which end of the train that will be. So, you have a 50% chance of running the whole length of the train to find your coach, heave your bags and self onto the proper coach and there never seemed to be enough time. At least twice, the whistles blow and Nan shouts out “I can’t make it!!!”....and she does make it! Huff and Puff!
We are grateful for the change of trains as our second train comes from London and it’s newer, and generally more comfortable.
Mel meets us at the Cardiff Central station! Lucky for all of us, it’s her Spring Vacation week from school, so it’s all “holiday” all the time!
What to do first?
How about a glass of wine and some cheese?
Tomorrow....it’s off to Saint David’s of Wales. This is a place we have long wanted to visit.
