I can hear the carol as I type the words...."...on Christmas Day in the morning." Only it is Christmas Eve, the full moon is rising over the playa and a few decorated skiffs motor by with shouts of "Merry Christmas!" The lumanaries are just set out above the tide line and everyone pitches in to light them. An awesome sight! The lights of Christmas Night!
Our propane campfire blazes, we have dinner and then take a beach walk in flip flops, warm sand filtering over our toes. And for us, that is the night.
Steve makes a Christmas Eve call back home with the new discovery that our iPhone 6s has the ability to connect with our Hughes Net satellite and make a phone call by sending the signal 22,500 miles up from a Baja beach, to the satellite, where it then travels 22,500 miles back down to San Juan Island or Seattle. Speechless!
After our visit down the beach we use the satellite connection to enjoy a FaceTime call with Jessica. Technology has the ability to compress the miles that separate us as we have a "face to face" conversation. Steve and I smile as we remember the days of family gathering around the telephone for a call placed "station to station" or "person to person" always after 5:00 p.m. when the rates went down. These last long distance calls were always placed with operator assistance and a very big deal!
In the late afternoon we drive into Hotel Serenidad near Mulege for a "traditional Christmas dinner."
We did this last year too, and enjoyed it so much we wanted a repeat performance.
Looks like Happy Holidays to me!! And Happy New Year!!
