Finally the wind sets down...and we get in a few kayak paddles. Spelled in Baja spanish: cayak. Try to say that!
We travel one morning around the corner to Santa Barbara Bay. There's an short mangrove channel over there, which requires getting through only a few inches of water in the beginning, and then a deeper waterway.

Steve paddles in Santa Barbara estuary |

Nan at end of estuary |
The water is quiet, the fish underneath us are invisible but put forth grand spashes. So, something is under there!
|
Calm paddle "up a creek".... |
Then it's over to Hat Island (which we call "Hat" because of the shape....like a Chinese man's hat). The beach looks like a white sand / shell beach photo op....but the bugs are relentless! Click the camera and we're gone!

Steve briefly lands on Hat Island |
Another day we load the boats on top of cars and launch 8 miles down the road at one of the last beach camps in this area. Debbie's had a goal for two years of kayaking around the island separated by a tidal sandbar. We are almost in time to totally kayak...so a little wading or "arm paddling" is necessary. It is flat and calm this day so it's perfect for the excursion.

Short cut using cars! |

Ana! Smooth kayaking to you! |
|
Looking for fish, Court? |
Then it's back to Coyote Beach....to get ready for movie night and dinner "out!" It's award winning "Argo" tonight! Oh, and lamb curry, made by an Englishman, in a small Mexican road restaurant, with good friends! Amazing!
