It’s Uke Ohana Oahu!.....Hawaii in August?

Hawai’i....in August...?  Hum!  When ukuleles call, one must go...so, August 17th we hop on the big BIG Hawaiian bird, known as Hawaiian Airlines and off we go to the island of Oahu for Uke Ohana Oahu 2019.  This time we are helping out the organizing team of Full Heart Productions, Melany and Duncan.  We arrive a day early to learn about the week ahead of us and how we can help.  Our home for the next week will be Ke Lki Bungalows on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu!

First things first...we wander down to the beach and dip our toes in the warm waters of the Pacific that surrounds the Hawaiian Islands.
Heaven....on Earth!

Ok, Steve goes for more than the toes.  No surprise there!

Sunset brings cooler temperatures, and beauty.

We are up and at ‘em early on Sunday as we will be picking up leis for all the participants and also, four vans as we will be driving folks around to different locations during the week...as well as airport pick up.  Nothing like Honolulu International Airport and city traffic for starters!

Oh!  So many to choose from...each so beautiful!

Not quite ready yet...our first introduction to “Island Time.”

We barely arrive at Ke Iki Bungalows and it’s time for making poi lessons.  First, wash your hands!

Then, peel the taro root skin.

If you pass this test, it’s to the pounding poi boards you go!

Walt sets everything up carefully...the boards, the water rinse buckets, the poi pounders...and gives instructions on how to approach and sit on the boards.

Seems to me, Steve has the skill set for this.  His poi looks like poi faster than mine!

Smashing the root and then mashing it to a paste takes about 15 minutes for each piece...and patience!

Ahhh, time for a mini rest before dinner!

What an incredible place for our first dinner together....the patio, the beach below and the sun slipping below the horizon!

Bookends to a perfect day!
