Party Up!!!

If it's one thing we're not short of on the beach, it's parties.  Any excuse will do....or, heck, who needs an excuse?

There are plenty of Birthday Boys and Girls.  It seems almost everyone that camps on Coyote has a birthday between December and March!  Who knows...maybe some just say so...to get one of those custom cakes from Barb?  When you see her trekking down the beach, cake in hand, you know she's got another target!

While I know the food group pyramid has been revised in the U.S. It's now obvious to me that these are the three food groups for sure...and they all start with "C"....let's see, that would be Cake, Cheetos and Chocolate!!  Yep!  That's it!

Here's Birthday Girl Glenna and Wayne back in January.

Then, everyone wants to have a turn at wearing the special Happy Birthday Tierra and...wait for it...this year we added the Sunglasses!!!  (The Tierra has made the round for three years now!!). (We also have had a crown with flashing lights go missing.  How?)

Steve and I have added a serenade (some would say gift) of a Forever Young and Happy Birthday combo.

Pedro in all his glory...or some of it...February 6th!

Some prefer a more low key celebration...so they sneak away on an overnight camp out...or slip out on the water with a paddle board.

Hey, what's this?  A blue birthday cake "regifted"???  Happy Birthday, Barb!

Ah, then Mardi Gras happens...might as well have a fund raiser (translate....party) for the local firefighters and ambulance crews.  There is a donated fire truck, waiting to be importated at the Tijuana border....for a fee of $450.00 USD....

Of course, we had to help out the cause by attending!  Here are a few disguised friends.

Casa Hogar, a special home for kids in Mulege, holds a special place in all of our hearts here on the beach.  This year Laura is keeping 19 children fed, clothed, in school (with required uniforms) safe and happy.  Most of the children live there full time.  A few go home for weekends.   Here are a few pictures from the second annual fundraiser for Casa Hogar.

There is a true Mexican meal provided by local women and then the kids proudly preform several songs for us.

Delicious!! (I eat the posole faster than I can get out the camera!)

Of course we buy t-shirts too!

A post titled "Party Up...." has to include a few photos from 60's Night up at Estrella deal Mar.  Who knew our tie dyed ukulele shirts from Tunes in the Dunes would fit into our Baja life so perfectly??!

Pedro and Nan

Janet, Lu, Susan, Paul and KG

Obviously, some folks plan way ahead for this one!!

No surprise...we know ALL the music well!!
So....dance the night away.

Don't forget Valentine's Day!  This yea down here it last three days!  A different restaurant providing a special Valentines menu on Friday the 12th, Satrday the 13th and Sunday the 14th.  We hold it down to TWO!?

Friday the 12th is our first attempt at open mic with our ukulele groupies.  8 ukers actually show up!!

We "WOW" the audience....or, really ourselves!  As in, like "WOW" this actually happened!!

Thinking back on all this...and forward to being back on the island again...it seems we will have to go home for definite R&R from our "vacation months."  Often people say, upon leaning you spend three months on a Baja beach..."What on earth do you DO there?  Don't you get bored?"

Yeah....right. 😎

What's Up....

Que Pasa?  How goes it?  What's up?  All good questions.  The good news is that summer has finally arrived in winter!  The cool temperatures, clouds and wind have failed to make an appearance for the last four days....but it suddenly seems that it's always been this way.  Ah, what tricks memory plays!

So now to answer the question.  Monday and Wednesday nights we go up to the restaurants on the road and watch Oscar nominated movies.  The best so far, in my opinion, "Trumbo."  But it's always a lively evening of dinner and conversation.  Steve is keeping a three day a week yoga schedule.  Whew! At least once a week will find us at a Spanish lesson with Lily, our new teacher.

We are so happy Lily has taken us on as students!  Lily grew up in Mexico City, but has lived in Baja for 20 years.  She is prepared with songs to play for us and we listen and write every word we recognize.  Then she explains the songs, many with a mini history lesson from Spanish speaking country.

This day we meet at Armondo's palapa restaurant on Santispac beach.

There are a few art classes here and there.  Here's our teacher, Lynn spreading inspiration while Jerri works on her kelp pouch.  When the sea kelp dries, it looks just like leather.

Instructor Lynn is a retired art teacher from The Oregn coast.  She brings gourds, bags of kelp, pine needles, and rolls of sea grass for projects ranging from decorative gourds and kelp pouches, to baskets of all sizes.

How to resist  the "Juice Man" (Julio) and his wife as they come by to squeeze fresh tangerines and oranges...or pineapples, or carrots from the mobile kitchen.

I can just hear you asking...how does he squeeze the carrots and pineapple?

Yep...that's the power source!

My favorite is a tangerine and orange mix.  Who knew?

I am totally spoiled over this amazing, fresh and tasty juice, prepared at my doorstep!

Of course, ukulele happens....as we sit outside our RV....and with a bigger crowd on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons as we play with anyone who stops by Patty and Bob's RV.  Our group ranges form 2 of us (yep, happened once!) to 13 strummers this week!

And what do you know....our first open mic night happens!  Just like that!

Lots of fun!!  And the best part....there are a few more Friday nights left in the season!!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

The kayaks and SUP boards are ready and waiting.   The "flat water" mornings pull us to the shore....

Sparky is getting pretty good at the SUP board.  Sometimes he's on the board before Steve has his paddle.

A paddle across Coyote Bay takes you to Isla Coyote for a little rest up...and then another mile paddle back.

I'm still experimenting with the birthday art supplies....

Oh, there are many hum drum things going on too...you know, fill the hummingbird feeders, go to town for the Banco and groceries, drinking water and propane.  There is the not so fun chore of emptying the black water tank, and then there is the repositioning of the rig when our neighbors leave...which results in a week with no internet...and lots of fiddling with the system to try to discover why it cannot find our satellite, high in the sky, when the new rig position is all of 5 feet to the left?  We are now up and running, after help from a retired gringo from town...(referred by our Spanish teacher).... Who, hails from, Washington in the summer!

There's more to Que Pasa...but that's for the next post.

Hasta luego!
