On to Canada! We
clear customs over the phone, half way across Boundary Pass. This time, after all my careful provisioning
and appropriate worrying, they asked NO questions about fruits, veggies, or
alcohol! Dang! Oh what I could have brought along.
|
Right of way...no issue here! Easy decision! |
First stop is Montegue Harbor on Galliano Island. We spy a Fisher Nor’Easter 31, Sea Weed. We haven’t seen Loren or Sandy in years. They are just back from three months in
Princess Lousia Inlet.

Evening in Montegue Harbour |
Then it’s off to Ganges on Saltspring Island as we know
there is a great grocery store there at the top of the docks. Oh yes, and of course The Tree House
Café. We go twice! Once for a yummy dinner and great music by
the Stowaways from Hornby Island, and once for breakfast. Dogs welcome if you’re seated outside! Perfect!

The Stowaways from Hornby Island are perfect entertainment! |

Breakfast too! Why not? |
We do a little shopping in Ganges....no, no underwear here...that's affordable. But there is great fishing at the fish market...and this cartoon:
|
Gotta have humor about it all...as it's really not funny! |
From Ganges we head off to Telegraph Harbor on Thetis
Island. This positions us perfectly for
Dodd Narrows at 0930 the next day. But first, to enjoy this quiet harbor at the
end of the inlet. It’s off to the Honor
Store on the corner. Fresh carrots are
the purchase.
|
Are we headed home yet???? |
|
The Honor Store....just leave your money in the box! |
We watch Solar Bud as he creates panels of are on local
pieces of cedar using magnifying lenses to burn pictures into the wood
surface.

How about some uke music in the afternoon sunshine?
|
Yep, still remember the chords. |
Did I mention....Sparky fell into the drink? Backed right up over the edge of the dock....and, SPLASH! One wet, dog paddeling dog!
|
Maybe tomorrow we're headed home? What do you think?? |
We depart the next
morning at 0730 to make the narrows at slack water. The wind picks up, on the nose. I know Nanaimo in the wind. I call ahead to the port authority and they
say it’s very windy, there is not space in at the docks, the harbor is full,
because boats are not leaving to cross the Georgia Straits. We turn hard to port, and wander up Ladysmith
Harbor to the Ladysmith Maritime Society docks.
Space for us! Yay!
